# Screen Time

Screen Time is a feature that monitors how much time you spend using your device and specific apps, giving you real insight into your digital habits. It tracks:

* Total time spent on your device
* Time spent on individual apps
* How often you pick up your device
* Which apps send you the most notifications

This guide will show you how to create and track your screen time with the apps and websites tracked by Screen Time tracking of your devices.

    3. Among the tabs at the top of the habit templates screen, tap on **‘Screen Time’.**
    4. For the first time you create a habit connected with Screen Time, **you need to manually grant the access permission for Habitify.**
       1. In ‘*Authorization required*’ screen, tap the ‘**Continue**’ button.
       2. In confirmation pop-up, tap the ‘Continue’ option.
       3. Confirm the authorization with **your device’s passcode** or **Face ID**, as the required step by the system.
       4. In “*Habitify” Approved to Access Screen Time* screen, tap ‘**Done**’.
    5. Find and tap to select the apps and websites from the list, then tap ‘**Continue**’
    6. Configure the details of your habits as usual.
    7. Once everything is set, tap the ‘**Save**’ button in the top right corner.

    ## **Notes & Limitations**

    * Screen time values don’t sync until you reach your goal threshold.
    * **For good habits** (like using reading apps to read book), your habit is marked complete once you reach your time goal and stop syncing, though the counter of your device continues tracking the additional Screen Time.
      * For example: You set the goal to use your app 10 minutes per day; when the screen time records that you use the app for 10 minutes, the data will be pushed to Habitify; your habit is marked as completed; if you use the app more than 10 minutes, the rest of time will not be synced. You can manually log it later if you want.
    * **For bad habits** (like limiting social media):
      * Goal as “**Limit this habit**”: Habitify will actually limit your app usage once you reach your maximum threshold.
      * Goal as “**Quit this habit**”: Your selected app will be limited by default.
      * This restriction remains in place unless you go to the Habitify app and deliberately mark the habit as ‘Skip’ or ‘Fail’.

    <iframe src="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uI3xaXEJqjRkOyfJ1HP5QlvQ8jzBE-cA/preview" width="640" height="360" />

    1. Go to the **Journal** view and tap the **"+"** button on the date bar.
    2. Choose **Create Good Habit** or **Break Bad Habit**.
    3. Switch to the **Screen Time** option.
    4. Find and select the apps and websites you want to track your screen time with:
       1. Tap **Add Apps** and select apps
       2. Tap **Add Website** and enter the web links.
       3. When all needed to track are added, tap the 'Continue' button.
    5. Grant Habitify the permissions it needs to track accurately, under each unauthorized permission, *tap the **'Open Settings'** button **→** Find and tap on **Habitify logo →** switch the toggle button to **ON**.* The required permissions includes:
       * **Notifications**: lets the app keep you updated on data syncing, especially once you've reached an app's limit.
       * **App Usage Access**: needed for exact screen time data.
       * **Display Over Other Apps**: enables tracking on the app usage screen.
       * **Habitify Usage Limits and Website Analytics**: enables tracking for website usage.
    6. Come back Habitify and configure your habit.
    7. Once everything is set, tap the '**Save**' button in the top right corner.

    ## Notes & Limitations

    * **Data records after you close the app, or once you hit your goal.** Screen time values sync once you close the tracked app, or once you reach the goal threshold you've set — not continuously in real time while you're using it.
    * **For Good Habits**, your habit is marked complete the moment you hit your time goal — but your device's usage counter keeps tracking beyond that. If your goal is 30 minutes and you use the app for 45, Habitify shows the habit as done once you hit the 30-minute mark; it doesn't keep counting extra time toward that habit.
    * **For Bad Habits**, the behavior depends on your goal type:
      * **Limit this habit**: Habitify actively limits your app or website usage once you reach your maximum threshold. You genuinely get locked out of the app or the website for the rest of the day, not just notified.
      * **Quit this habit**: your selected apps and websites is limited by default, full stop.
      * These restrictions stay in place unless you deliberately mark the habit as **Skip** or **Fail** for the day.

## FAQs

<Accordion title="Why do certain apps get blocked even though I didn't select them for my limiting screen time habit?">
  When you set up a Screen Time habit in Habitify, you might notice that an app you deliberately left unchecked—such as **Messenger**, **WhatsApp**, or a retail app like **Amazon**—suddenly gets blocked or shows a time limit restriction screen.

  This happens because of how mobile operating systems enforce **website domain limits** across your entire device.

  Here is how you can fix it in a few taps.

  1. Open Habitify and navigate to your Screen Time habit settings.
  2. Review your list
  3. Keep the app and the main website domains you want to limit checked (e.g., `www.facebook.com`, `www.instagram.com`).
  4. Uncheck internal redirect links, mobile web previews, and short links such as:
     * `l.facebook.com`
     * `l.instagram.com`
     * `m.facebook.com`
     * Short-link domains and store bridges (e.g., `a.co`)
  5. Save your habit.
