# Area

An Area is a group, or folder, of habits, letting you organize your tracking around the different parts of your life instead of treating every habit as one flat, undifferentiated list. Group your exercise, water intake, and sleep habits under "Health"; your deep-work and email habits under "Work"; your journaling and meditation under "Mindfulness" - however your life actually breaks down.

Areas exist to help you prioritize. Instead of a single Daily Score covering everything at once, you can zoom into one category and see exactly how that part of your life is going.

    ## Creating a new area

    1. In **Journal**, swipe the area bar to the left to the very end.
    2. Tap on **'+ New Area'**.
    3. Tap on the icon, choose an icon and assign a color for your new area.<br />Tap ✓ button to save your selections.
    4. Tap in the name field, and enter your area's name.
    5. From **Exclude** list, tap ⊕ before the habit name to add it to the area.
    6. When everything is set, tap ✓ button to save the new area.

    ## Managing a custom area

    You can freely edit name and icon of a custom area, manage habits included in an area, and remove an area.

    ### Edit an area

    1. In Habitify app, access **Settings**.
    2. Find and tap to open the **All Areas** section.
    3. In the list of areas, tap on the area you want to make changes to.
    4. In the details of area screen, you can:
       1. tap the **icon** to change the icon and color.<br />tap  ✓ button on the top right corner to save your selections.
       2. tap the **name field** to change the area's name.
       3. in **Include** list, tap ⊖ before the habit name to remove the habit from the area.
       4. in **Exclude** list, tap ⊕ before the habit name to add the habit to the area.
    5. Tap **✓ button** on the top right corner to save all changes.

    ### Edit habit order in an area

    1. In Habitify app, access **Settings**.
    2. Find and tap to open the **All Areas** section.
    3. In the list of areas, tap on the area you want to change the order of its habits.
    4. In **Include** list, hold the ☰ button on the right of the habit, then drag it up & down to change its order in the list.
    5. When everything is set, tap the ✓ button to save your changes.

    ### Delete an area

    1. In Habitify, access **Settings**.
    2. Find and tap to open the **All Areas** section.
    3. In the list of areas, tap on the area you want to remove
    4. Tap the button '**Delete this Area**'
    5. In confirming step, tap '**Delete**'.

    ## Managing the area order

    You have the ability to organize the order of your custom areas on the area bar of Journal. Here's how:

    1. In Habitify app, access **Settings**.
    2. Find and tap to open the **All Areas** section.
    3. Hold the ☰ button on the right of the area, and drag it up or down to change the area's order.
    4. Tap the ✓ button to save the changes.

      Changes on the area order from iOS and Android apps are synced to Website & Desktop apps immediately once it is saved.

    2. Tap + button, then choose **'New Area'.**
    3. Tap the icon, then choose an icon and assign a color for your new area.<br />Tap **'Done'** on the top right corner to save your selection.
    4. Tap on the name field, and enter your new area's name.
    5. In **Exclude** list, tap the plus button on the right of your habit to add it to the new area.
    6. When everything is set, tap **'Save'** button on the top right corner to save your new area.

    ## Managing a custom area

    1. In the app, navigate to Areas section on the left sidebar
    2. Click '**+ New Area**'.
    3. Give a name to your new area, press Enter to save the entry.
    4. Click the icon, then choose a new icon and assign a color for your new area.
    5. Click outside to save the changes.

    ## Managing a custom area

    ### Edit icon, color & name of an area

    To edit icon and color of an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, navigate to the **Areas** section.
    2. Click the area's icon.
    3. Choose a new icon and color.
    4. Click outside to confirm the changes.

    To edit name of an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, navigate to the **Areas** section.
    2. Click to choose the area you want to edit.
    3. Click again to enable editing.
    4. Provide the new name.
    5. Press 'Enter' to save the change.

    ### Manage habits in an area

    To add a habit to an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, access **Preferences > Habits.**
    2. Access the **Active** list.
    3. Find the habit and drag it to the targeted area.

    To change a habit's order in an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, access Preferences > Habits
    2. Navigate to Areas, and click the targeted area.
    3. Hold your mouse on the habit, and drag it up or down to change its order.
    4. Changes are automatically saved.

    To remove a habit from an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, access **Preferences > Habits**
    2. Navigate to **Areas**, and click the current area where your habit is included in.
    3. Right-click the habit, and choose **Edit**.
    4. In habit's details, navigate to the **Area field**, and click to remove the area.
    5. Click **'Save'**.

    ### Delete an area

    To remove an area:

    1. On the left sidebar, navigate to **Areas** section.
    2. Right-click the habit you want to remove, then choose '**Delete**'.
